The agenda was light for the Pike County Commission Monday night.

County Engineer Russell Oliver brought a safety issue to the commission by request from Commissioner Charlie Harris.

Harris wanted to replace 35 mph speed limit signs along a section of County Road 4408 that has a higher volume of driveways and homes than other areas of the road. Oliver found there was no record that 35 mph was the official speed limit of that section of County Road 4408, so the council voted to implement that speed limit and replace the signs.

Also at the meeting, the commission voted to allow Oliver to open a part-time temporary spot for an engineer’s assistant and to begin the annual bidding process for goods and services concerning the county’s roadways.

The commission voted to allow the progression of two grants – one from the Alabama Department of Transportation for the reappraisal department and one from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs for equipment for the Drug Task Force.

The next scheduled Pike County Commission meeting is July 23 where members are slated to consider the possibility of a pre-disaster contract for debris removal and new safety policies for county employees.
