The dedication of the Troy University Fraternity Village Saturday attracted the largest gathering ever at the university for a dedication ceremony.

Dr. Doug Hawkins, “Father of the Greek System at Troy University,” expressed his appreciation to those whose vision it was to bring the Troy University fraternities together in a village of brotherhood.

“Since the system was initiated in 1963, more than 10,000 Greeks have come through the system,” Hawkins said.

The 8,517 square-feet, two-story houses were built in a traditional neighborhood-style development along Pell Avenue and provide 24 beds per house. The University owns the housing development and leases the houses to the seven fraternities.

Each house follows the same floor plan and includes a chapter room, a social room and laundry facilities in addition to the bedrooms.

“Fraternity Village will reshape our Greek System in a very positive manner,” said Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins Jr.

“It will make us stronger as a university and will foster a greater involvement by in campus life for our fraternities.”

Construction on the $8 million project began October 2009 and the units were ready for move in at the beginning of the fall semester in August.
