On Monday afternoon, Bulldogs and Eagles were pitted against one another at Pike County High School.
The volleyball teams from Goshen and Carroll traveled to PCHS to take on the Bulldogs in an early tri-match.
When it was all said and done, each team left with a win and a loss.
In the first match of the day, the two Pike County teams took the court.
After winning the first game, 25-15, GHS lost the next two to PCHS, by the scores of 26-24 and 15-11.
The Bulldogs jumped out ahead of the Eagles 8-2 in the second game, however, GHS was able to tie things up at 11 apiece.
PCHS would get ahead 23-20 and never look back.
In the third game, PCHS again took an early lead, this time going up 4-0 on GHS.
Right after the Eagles fell to the Bulldogs, it took on the Eagles from Ozark.
Like it did in the first match of the day, GHS won its first game before losing its second game, by the score of 26-24 and 19-25.
But unlike the first match, GHS found a way to battle back, finishing its day with a 15-12 victory in the third game to take out CHS.
“We were up and down (Monday),” GHS head coach Dee Hughes said.
“I’m proud of how the girls played in the last match – they really changed things up and got aggressive. But I think we were off today.
“I think losing the first match was kind of an eye-opener for our team,” the coach said. “Hopefully, we will be able to see what we did wrong (Monday) and work on getting better.”
Hughes said she hopes these matches will help her team prepare for what is to come later on in the season.
“This is going to be something we have to be ready for when Area play,” she said.
“We looked a little of out of early on but we came back strong.”
The split brings GHS’ record to 2-1 on the season.
The Bulldogs again took the court following the match, but were unable to recreate the same kind of winning atmosphere.
CHS was able to win both games by the scores of 25-16 and 25-19 thanks to early leads.
Even though PCHS went down in both games, the team over came large deficits in both games.
“Our confidence is definitely building up,” PCHS head coach Lisa Hayes said after the Bulldogs’ second match. “We are coming together very nicely. Even though I was a little disappointed (with the loss to Carroll) I still am proud of how the girls played (Monday night),” the coach added.
PCHS is now 2-1 on the early season after Monday’s results.
