As the Trojans of Charles Henderson head into the regular season, the team will look to start things off on a better note than it did in 2009.

CHHS started the season off by losing four of its first five games.

It turned things around in the second half of the season, winning four of five, however, today, will be hoping that what happened in the past, stays in the past.

The last team to defeat the Trojans was the Hornets of Beauregard and as it turns out, they will be the first in line for CHHS in the new season.

“We have played (Beauregard) the past two seasons,” head coach Hugh Fountain said Thursday afternoon.

“It’s going to be a tough game for us, especially on the road.

“This will be a game that will be a good gage for where we are at the beginning of the season,” he added.

The two schools have only played each other twice in recent years, with the Hornets winning both times.

Last season, BHS finished with a 7-4 overall record in 5A Region 2.

The Hornets advanced to the first round of the playoffs, but were ousted by LeFlore.

Coming back for the Hornets will be senior wide receivers, Christian Collis and Shaquille Williams.

Williams finished 29 receptions for 368 yards, while Collis finished with 27 439.

Charles Floyd, the BHS starting quarterback, who finished with 1,314 yards and 13 touchdown passes in 2009, will also be returning under center.

The Trojan head ball coach said his team is going to have to be ready to face off against a balanced foe, if they want to return to Troy with a 1-0 record.

“They can run the ball well and they can throw the ball well,” Fountain said.

“We have been working on stuff all week to prepare for their spread attack, which is similar to what we saw last week against Pike County.”

The Trojans and the Hornets will get underway tonight at 7 p.m. in Opelika.
