The completion of the renovation of Brundidge’s Tupper Lightfoot Memorial Library is still on hold.

While the majority of the construction work has been completed, Brundidge is still awaiting word from USDA Rural Development on the status of its grant application.

Brundidge has applied for a grant that would cover the costs of furnishings.

However, city manager Brit Thomas told the council at its Tuesday meeting that no indication has been given in regards to the grant.

“We spoke with them (Tuesday) and we don’t really have anything else to report,” Thomas said.

However, Thomas said the city would look into the possibility of obtaining a waiver to allow it to purchase essential items such as shelving without voiding the grant application.

The city also expects to have its new LED street lights in hand by September 3, and will install the lights soon after that.

Meanwhile, the matter concerning the property on Galloway Road appears to be nearing a conclusion.

Thomas said Samuel Green has decided to tear the house on the property down.

“He was quite shocked at the prices he got for the work it would take to bring it up to code,” Thomas said.

“I think the lowest price he received was $16,000, and he elected to tear the house down after that.”

The council granted Green until December 1 to finish tearing the house down.
