Today, the Troy Junior Dixie Boys team will be leaving Troy for Dothan as it looks to claim the 2010 World Series trophy.

And even though the team may be playing away from home, that does not mean it won’t feel a little bit like home.

As Troy has moved from tournament to tournament, so have the team’s fans, and many people expect, and hope, that nothing changes over the next week.

“It’s a huge advantage and privilege for team to play in a World Series in Dothan for a number of reasons,” Parks and Recreation Director Dan Smith said.

“It’s a short drive for not just Troy but for Central Alabama to see a World Series played out and the facilities in Dothan are world class.”

“This is an exciting time for our team,” Smith said.

Youth Sports Coordinator, David Dickey, has seen first hand what kind of crowds Troy can bring to a tournament.

“Regardless of where Troy is playing, there always seems to be a big crowd at the game,” Dickey said.

“The town has always supported all of the tournament teams – they are always a big deal at it shows at the ball field”

For the upcoming week, Dickey said he expects to see the same kind of support in Dothan.

“I would love to see a lot of Troy fans down there,” he said. “And in the end, I think it helps the team our more.

“For a player or coach to see their friends and family in the stands wherever they are really means a lot,” Dickey added.

Troy will begin action in Dothan on against the host team at 7 p.m, on Saturday evening at the Dothan Miracle Field Complex.
