In the opening game of the District Tournament, the Troy Dixie Boys team struggled offensively in a win over Geneva.

That game is all but behind Troy now, as it has cruised past Ashford and Eufaula in back-to-back games and now stares directly at Geneva in the championship round, which will be played today in Eufaula.

Troy is back in the championship position thanks to a dominating 12-0 win in six innings over the host team Thursday night.

“We got a great effort from the guys (Thursday night),” head coach Sam Kitchens said after the game.

“A lot of people stepped up for us, in a big way and it really made a difference. I’m proud of how these guys played against a good Eufaula team.”

On the mound for Troy for the firs time was Nathan Fox, who threw shutout baseball for four innings, and only have up six hit.

“Nathan pitched a heck of a game for us,” Kitchens said. “He did a fantastic job.”

Luke Hasting took over in relief of Fox, pitching the final two innings, striking out three and not surrendering a hit.

“We had some great pitching efforts tonight and some great defensive plays behind them,” the coach said.

At the plate, Troy got inspiring performances from Kenyatta Jones who hit a two-run homer, and finished 3-4 at the plate, Blake Craft, who finished 2-3 and Morgan Shaver, who finished 2-4.

“We had a good team effort (Thursday night) but we are going to need for Geneva,” Kitchens said.

“We are going to change anything up (from the last game) but we are going to have to play better baseball and be ready for a good game.”

The two teams will meet in the championship game tonight at 6 p.m. Eufaula.
