A Georgia man remained in jail Thursday after he was arrested this weekend for allegedly trying to smuggle drugs into the Pike County Jail.
According to court documents, Edward Ridley, 41, of Cordele, Ga., arrived at the jail at approximately 4:40 p.m. July 3 with a styrofoam container of Chinese food with the intent of delivering the container to jail inmate Vincent Thomas.
However, when jailer Mathew Stephens searched the container with a fork, he found a leafy green substance that appeared to be marijuana.
According to court documents, Deputy Tim Brooks arrived on scene to inspect the substance, and placed Ridley in the Pike County Jail on second degree charges of promoting prison contraband.
Ridley’s bond was set at $7,500. He had not met bond as of Thursday afternoon.
