A 25-year-old Troy man with outstanding charges related to child custody faces eight new offenses after leading police on a high-speed chase late Tuesday.

Troy Police attempted to stop Carl Burney, 25, around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday when for outstanding warrants.

“He failed to stop for police when they attempted to stop him,” said Troy Police spokesman Sgt. Benny Scarbrough.

The pursuit began in the vicinity of Wayne Farms on Henderson Highway and continued to the intersection of Blind Jack Road.

Scarbrough said at times the pursuit exceeded speeds of 100 miles per hour.

Burney, driving a 2001 Chevrolet Impala, faces new charges of attempting to elude the police, reckless endangerment and citations for reckless driving, speeding, improper passing, improper lane change, no insurance and driving while suspended.

Burner was taken to the Troy City Jail and processed without incident at 7:24 p.m. He was later transferred to the Pike County Jail where he is charged with two counts of criminal non support.
