It took close to 24 hours to accomplish, but the Troy Pre-Minor team won its district championship game Friday, defeating Greenville 13-3.
The game began Thursday, but rain firced it to be suspended until Friday with Troy leading 12-3 in the top of the fifth inning.
The extra day could not help Greenville, however, as Troy held it scoreless over the final two innings to seal the win.
The win was the third straight for Troy following its only defeat against Eufaula June 26.
That loss put Troy one loss away from elimination for the rest of the tournament, but that could not stop the Trojans.
One of those victories was a win over Eufaula in a rematch for the right to advance to the championship game.
“It was a long time coming to get the result we wanted,” said head coach Andy Blair. “It was both bad and good that we lost earlier in the tournament. It was good because now the kids know they have to play hard in order to win. But, it was bad that we had to have to come back after a loss in order for them to learn that.”
The win also clinches a spot for Troy in the state tournament, which will begin July 9 in Enterprise.
