The Dixie-Minor National Rookie team found a way to bounce back from their opening round loss on Friday night by taking its frustration out on Greenville, Monday night.
Troy cruised to an easy, 38-14 victory vaulting it to live another day in the District tournament.
“It was a great day for us,” head coach Scott Reeder said Monday night.
“We hit the ball really well and we played great defensively and had a great outing from our pitchers as well.
“I’m very proud of how the team played,” he added.
In the 24-run win, every Troy player got on base at least three times either by a hit or by walk, according to the coach.
Every Troy player also scored multiple runs.
“We did everything right (Monday night),” Reeder said. “Hopefully, we can keep it going in the tournament.”
The two pitchers on the mound for Troy were Andrew Graham and Jackson Giles.
“Both our guys on the mound pitched very well,” Reeder said. “In this league, you have to play defense and pitch well, and we were able to do that very well (on Monday night).”
Besides how the team is playing at the plate and in the field, the coach said he is proud of how the team has come together recently.
“We are playing as a team now – and that’s big.
“I think we can hit with any team in this tournament. I’m not worried about our hitting, but I am very happy to see how well we played together defensively,” the coach added.
Now, the team will take on the winner of the Crenshaw County/ Enterprise Americans team Tuesday at 8 p.m.
The game between the two teams had not concluded by the team the paper was sent to press.
“Everyone had a great night,” Reeder said. “It’s hard to say who did the best.”
