The Troy O-Zone Rookies advanced to the championship game of the district tournament Monday by defeating Enterprise National 15-3.

The Trojans were led by a dominating pitching performance from Jackson Murphy, who pitched four innings and gave up just one hit.

Murphy has pitched seven total innings for the tournament, and has given up just two hits so far.

The Troy offense was out in full support of Murphy, as nearly every player scored a run for Troy.

“Jackson pitched a great game for us, and then the offense was great as well,” said head coach Ashley Floyd. “10 of our 12 players scored runs, and the guys that didn’t drove in runs for us. When you play like that, you can win ball games.”

Troy jumped out in front from almost the get-go, as Bryson Gandy hit a leadoff home run to put Troy up 1-0 in the top of the first.

After Enterprise scored runs in both the first and second innings, Troy trailed 2-1 heading into the third.

It was then that the Troy bats exploded. The Trojans scored nine runs in the inning, as the first 10 Trojans batters reached base, with nine of those coming around to score runs.

Troy added four more in the fourth, and went on to win 15-3.

The offensive explosion was much needed for Troy, as the Trojans had only scored six runs combined in two previous games.

“I told them just to keep on doing what they were doing,” Floyd said. “The way they hit the ball the first two games, they were due for a game like this. They had been hitting the ball right at people, so they were bound to find the gaps sooner or later.”

Gandy was 1-3 with a home run, Murphy Renfroe was 2-3, Murphy was 2-3, Devan Suddith was 2-2 with a walk, Tyler Floyd was 1-1, and Nate Dukes was 1-2.

Kobe Griffin and Jeremy Parker scored a run, while Reed Johnson was 1-1 with two runs scored and a walk.

Tyler Hussey had a sacrifice bunt, an RBI and a walk.

Now, Troy will have a rematch against Enterprise American, which it defeated 4-2 Friday night, today at 6:30 p.m. for the district championship.

“I think we’ll be able to play with confidence,” Floyd said. “The team we played the other night never really threatened the other night, so I feel like if we play good defense, we’ll be OK.’
