Every great team has at least one good hitter in its lineup.

As it turns out, the Troy Pre-Minor League tournament team has more than just one.

In a league where a machine pitches a ball at 40 miles-per-hour, it would be easy to understand if eight-years-old would be unable to make contact, however, that is not the case with this Troy team.

“Everyone in the lineup can hit the ball really well,” said head coach Andy Blair. “And we also got some kids who can hit it to the fence – real power hitters.”

The players with the power the coach was talking about were Ty Singleton, Gage Knighten and Jackson Blair.

“Anytime who have hitters like that, it’s going to give you a little bit of an advantage,” the coach said.

The team will try and use that advantage today, as it will be starting its tournament season off in Brundidge with a game against Crenshaw Coutny at 4 p.m. Before this game, the Troy team did compete in eight warm-up games, finishing with a 7-1 record.

But according to the coach, this is the game the kids have really been waiting for.

“We have looked really good,” Blair said Thursday evening. “I think the team has reached a point where they are all just anxious to get out on the field and play an opponent.”
