Kilgore (Tex.) scored six runs in the first inning and never looked back as they defeated Troy, 15-10, in the Dixie O-Zone World Series in Cleveland, Miss.
Dawson Hamlin blasted a three-run home run in theĀ second inningĀ cutting Troy deficit to two, 6-4. It wouldn’t be enough, however, as Texas added a run in the third, two in the fourth, another in the fifth, and five in the sixth.
Hamlin double home Graham Wilkes and Reed Jinright singled to score Garrett Tucker in the fourth. Troy attempted to stage a late rally in the sixth, scoring four runs but were retired before doing any more damage.
Hamlin would lead Troy at the plate going 2-for-3 with four RBIs.
Reed Jinright finished 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Wood Jinright was 2-for-3.
Graham Wilkes, Garrett Tucker, Cole Little, Brian Redmon, Spencer Floyd, and Juhmir Lampley all had a hit each.
The loss marks the first for the Troy team in postseason play. Troy had run through the district and state tournaments unblemished and won its first game of the World Series over South Carolina on Saturday.
Troy will next play Tennessee at 10 a.m. Monday.
