Ken Baggett was has been named Director of Missions for the Salem-Troy Baptist Association. Today is Baggett’s first day in his new position with the Association.

Baggett is not a newcomer to the association or the area. He was born and raised in Glenwood and graduated from Goshen High School.

He was ordained to preach by Goshen Baptist Church and his first church pastorate was Ansley Baptist Church.

When he accepted the call as Director of Missions, Baggett was pastor of Springfield Baptist Church in Brundidge. He has also pastored churches in Crenshaw County and Georgia.

“I’m looking forward to working with all the churches in the Salem-Troy Baptist Association,” Baggett said. “It is my responsibility to work all the churches in different areas of ministry. Working together, we can accomplish greater things for God’s Kingdom than by working individually.”

Baggett said the Association churches come together in the operation of a food pantry on Tuesdays.

“That’s one example of how we can do more collectively,” he said.

“But there are times and areas where the churches work independently on projects and to accomplish goals.”

Baggett said the new position will require a good amount of record keeping and providing leadership to keep lines of communication open.

“I will be challenged with keeping the churches in the Association up to date with the activities and events of the Alabama Baptist Association and the Southern Baptist Convention. I will keep the churches informed on current issues that the church is dealing with on the state and convention levels, as well.”

Baggett said that he will also fill pulpits on various occasions, some due to need and others by invitation.

“I’m glad for this opportunity to serve in a different area of the ministry,” the new director said. “This area of ministry comes with different opportunities and challenges in serving our Association.”

Baggett is married to Rebecca Drinkard Baggett, a native Pike Countian. She is the assistant headmaster at Pike Liberal Arts School. The Baggetts have a son, John Baggett, who is a deputy sheriff in Shelby County; a daughter-in-law, Alison, who is the children’s ministry director at Westwood Baptist Church in Alabaster; and three grandchildren, J.C., Blakeley and Troy.
