Sewer repairs keep Three Notch closed

A stretch of road on North Three Notch Street between Orange and Carroll will be closed for a few more days as emergency repairs are made on a sewer line.
“We hope to have paving and everything back by Thursday,” said Mike Davis, Water and Sewer Superintendent for the city of Troy.
Davis said the problem probably started with the 100-year-old pipes buried below the road.
“More than likely, there was a crack in the sewer line,” he said.
That break in the channel then caused the ground above it to collapse, rendering the line ineffective.
The Alabama Department of Transportation has been forced to reroute truck traffic around the work.
Trucks traveling through Troy on Highway 29 are being redirected at Fairview Street and the U.S. Highway 231 overpass. The route takes the 18-wheelers around the city via Trojan Way and Highway 231 north of town.
Local traffic is being detoured around the construction along Wiley Street by the old peanut dryers, by way of Center Street and Orange Street.
Davis said the sewer work should be repaired today and residents shouldn’t experience any noticeable drainage problems. Work will then begin on repaving the road.
“We apologize for the inconvenience, it’s just one of those things that has to be done,” Davis said.
