Beau McKinney has fought in two terms in Iraq, but he said that’s not where the real battle is.

So, “Fighting” Beau as he’s coined himself, is hoping to stand on the front line of that battle in Washington D.C. if elected to the congressional seat. He will face other Republicans Martha Roby, Rick Barber and Stephanie Bell in the June 1 primary. The victor will face Democrat incumbent Bobby Bright in November.

“I realized after the second tour going door to door and seeing the people where the real fight was. It’s here in Washington,” McKinney, a former Marine, said.

Though McKinney has goals if elected to office, he kicked his campaign off officially last month with a plan to walk the entire second Congressional District in hopes of learning what the people really want.

At the top of McKinney’s platform is to take control of the House, “fire Nancy Pelosi and sell her airplane on EBay,” his pamphlet reads.

Also in the plans are to fire 16,000 IRS agents recently hired, a move he said would make room for more jobs.

McKinney said if elected to office he will work also to appeal the federal health care plan, beefing up benefits for military veterans as part of the plan. Other changes to make to the health care plan, he said, he’ll have to learn on his district walk.

“That’s what I’m going to find out. I want to find out what people are upset about,” McKinney said.

Also in his plans are to reduce government spending by at least 15 percent in departments except the military and extend tax cuts.

McKinney grew up in Talledega and has moved to Montgomery since his honorary discharge from the U.S. Marine Corps.

“I want to serve the interest of the people. I’m the only candidate with the leadership skills, knowledge and a proven plan based on Reagan conservatives,” McKinney said. “I’m the only candidate with a strong platform that can really save America.”
