Ruby Nell Hancock

Ruby Nell Hancock was born January 3, 1923 to James & Daisy Johnson. She confessed Christ at a very early age and joined Goode Street Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. H. H. Davis. She attended Luther Elementary School, Alabama State High School and 2 years of college at Alabama State University. She taught at Hurtsboro County High School in Hurtsboro, Alabama.
In 1945 she was united in marriage to Phillip Hancock of Kansas City, Kansas and to this union one son, James Earl (deceased) was born.
She was a faithful servant of the Lord in all her Christian work, involving the Kansas District, State and Baptist Convention.
After 45 years of marriage, with the lost of her husband, she moved back to Alabama with her son and made her home in Troy, Alabama. She joined the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. She worked for several years under OCAP as Director of Knox Street Community Center. She also worked with the Preschool Headstart program. She was voted and named “Granny” to the children. By many children she was still called Granny Hancock. She was honored with the title “Duchess” of North Three Notch Street. Many young people at Bethel Church and other churches adopted her as Aunt and Godmother.
She loved young people and always took time for them. She was a faithful worker in Sunday School (Teacher of Adult #1 Class) and the Missionary Society (Teacher). She always gave food and clothing to the needed.
She did all she could for the young and old and prayed faithfully for people personal needs.
She leaves loving memories with a special aunt: Johnnie Mae Warren, Montgomery, AL; a niece, Brenda (Vernon) Williams, Kansas City, KS; nephews, Clarence (Evelyn) Boswell, Kansas City, MO; Phillip (Katie) Cohen, Kansas City, KS; devoted cousin, Pandorah (David) Ganzy, Panama City, FL; special cousins, Fannie Allen, Union Springs, AL; Dr. Eddie B. Warren, Montgomery, AL; Elaine Shepherd, Montgomery, AL; Jimmy Lee Allen, Fitzapatrick, AL; extended family, Callie L. Starks, Troy, AL; Hiawathia Jackson, Sr., Troy, AL; very devoted friends, Annette Lowe, Claretha Potts, Lillie Mae King, Herman and Catherine Whatley, The Tellis Family and a host of other relatives and friends.
