A downpour of rain caused an 18-wheeler hauling chickens to overturn on Alabama Highway 223 near Banks around 11 a.m. Friday.

Kendrick Freeman of Georgia was driving a 2007 Freightliner around a sharp curve on Alabama Highway 223, near U.S. Highway 29, when the vehicle hit the right shoulder of the road, lost control and overturned.

According to Trooper Kevin Cook, Freeman was able to remove himself from the wrecked vehicle, though he sustained minor injuries. CARE Ambulance transported Freeman from the scene to Troy Regional Medical Center.

“He just lost control during the rainstorm,” Cook said. “It was raining pretty hard at the time of the accident.”

Cook said there is no indication that alcohol or illicit substances were involved in the wreck.
