All the Goshen Eagles volleyball team needed entering Tuesday’s match against Highland Home was one more win to clinch the regular season area title.
When the dust settled between the two rivals, it was the Eagles who were the last standing team standing as cruised past HHHS in three-straight games, 25-23, 25-19 and 25-15.
“We were really in control (Tuesday),” head coach Dee Hughes said about the win.
“The girls were a little emotional at the start of the match, but once they calmed down, they did a good job of spreading the ball out and keeping the momentum.”
Both Devon Izzio and Ivia Pollard finished with double-digits in points, with 11 and 10 respectively.
Niyoka Slater also finished with five kills.
The win improved GHS to 12-3 on the season and the team will now gear up to play host to the area tournament and HHHS and Red Level on Monday.
The Eagles will have the No. 1 seed, while the Flying Squadron and the Tigers will be the No. 2 and No. 3.
GHS is guaranteed a spot in the regional tournament with Tuesday’s win.
“We have been in this position before,” Hughes said.
“We know there is still a lot of volleyball yet to be played. But I am so proud of how the girls played (Tuesday). They got the job done.”
Like the varsity squad, the Goshen JV team also won, defeating HHHS in three games, 11-25, 25-12 and 15-11.
