Coming off a big win over Russell County last Friday night, the Charles Henderson Trojans find themselves controlling their own destiny as they strive to make the playoffs for the first time in two seasons.

And similar to last week, the team finds itself preparing for region play, this time with Rehobeth on deck.

While head coach Hugh Fountain said last week’s win over the Warriors was huge, a win over Rebels would be equally as important.

“A win Friday night would help maintain where we are right now, as far as playoff seeding go,” the coach said Wednesday afternoon.

“The win over Russell County helped put us in a good position to make the playoffs, but if we want that to happen, we still have to win the rest of our games and it starts with Rehobeth.”

The aforementioned win, brought CHHS’ overall record to 3-3, and 2-2 in 5A Region 2 play.

Preparing for the upcoming game has proved to be a bit difficult for Fountain and the Trojans, as the effects from the previous game are still visible.

“We have had a good attitude all week long in practice, but we are still a bit banged and bruised up from Russell County,” the coach said.

“We have been moving people around a lot this week to try and get everything right for Friday. The kids have responded well so far (to new positions) but it’s still a concern anytime players are learning new positions during a game week.”

Fountain said there were no major injuries to report however. As far as what the Rebels will bring, Fountain said his team is going to have to be ready for tough battle.

“Rehobeth always seems to play us tough in their place. It’s always a difficult game against them.

“They have a very talented running back in Corey Perkins and have a lot of size and speed on the defensive end of the ball – that have some good players in some positions,” the coach said.

The Rebels will enter the game with a 0-6 record, being outscored by its opponents, 164 to 61.

This is RHS’ last region home game of the regular season however, and that is something that Fountain said could present a problem for his team.

“They are going to give it everything they’ve got and we know this. We have got to be able to play our game and make sure we limit mistakes so they can’t get any kind of momentum. They have played a lot of good teams close this year, despite what their record shows and we are going to have to play four whole quarters if we want to come out with a win.”

The Rebels and the Trojans will meet in Rehobeth with a 7 p.m. kickoff scheduled.
