There is no love lost nor has Troy forgotten its experience with Louisiana-Lafayette last season.

The Trojans redeemed a 2010 loss to UAB with a 39-29 victory Saturday to open the season. Now, Troy looks to another school that they feel deserves a little payback, the Ragin’ Cajuns of Louisiana-Lafayette.

“We’re not their biggest fans and they’re now ours,” Troy quarterback Corey Robinson said. “It’s going to be a tough battle, we’re just going to have to grind it out.”

Last season, the Ragin’ Cajuns defeated Troy in front of 28,775 fans. That loss started the Trojans downward spiral as they lost five of their last six conference games.

“They were championship caliber team last year and handed it to us,” Troy head coach Larry Blakeney said. “It’s a different game (this year) and a different set of circumstances. It’s here, not there. I’ve go to think we’ve got a chance.”

Louisiana-Lafayette topped an inferior Lamar squad 40-0 and quarterback Blaine Gautier knows the difficulties of playing Troy.

“This team (Troy) always bounces back and had a few good years, winning Sun Belt Conference championships,” he told The Advocate in Baton Rouge. “There will be a lot of electricity and excitement…We know that going against Troy is not always that easy.

The Ragin’ Cajuns took a shot this week as head coach Mark Hudspeth announced that starting running back Montrel Carter would miss the rest of the season after tearing two ligaments in his left knee.

Carter was a redshirt freshman and carried the ball just six times for 27 against Lamar before being injured.

Troy coaches and players stressed the importance of Trojans fans attending the game.

“It’s a big one, no doubt,” Blakeney said.

Kickoff for the game is set for 6 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
