The Pike County Chamber of Commerce staff, board of directors and committee members have been hard at work this fall to improve the fellowship, involvement and education within our community.

Leigh Anne Windham, president, and I have been focusing on improving relationships with our Chamber members. We welcome feedback from our members on what changes and improvements they would like to see in their Chamber, what educational opportunities they would like to have and guest speakers they would like to hear from. It is important to us that you feel that you get every penny’s worth out of your membership investment.

We have added more advertising opportunities to our members recently, including a Friday email blast to membership that includes Chamber member’s sales, specials, new employee announcements, and other special events. This is sent to our 400-plus email distribution list each week.

Leigh Anne and I have also been working closely with the Chamber’s committees, which include the Education Committee, Downtown Committee, Farm City Committee and Hospitality Committee. All Chamber committees are very active and truly make a difference in our community.

We are approaching the 2010 Annual Troy University Homecoming Appreciation Day Parade on November 13th and are working to make sure that this year’s parade is full of fun, spirit and MUSIC!

The Farm City Banquet, hosted by the Chamber’s Farm City Committee, is set for November 11. On this day, Pike County farmers and farms will be recognized for their contribution to agriculture in our community. Farm City Committee members are currently selling tickets to the banquet. The Education Committee has kicked off the “Let’s Eat!” program to fund the 2011 PRAISE Scholarship which is given to the high school senior in Pike County with the highest ACT score. Participating restaurants donate a percentage of their proceeds from their designated “Let’s Eat!” day.
