After picking up just their second win of the season last week, the Charles Henderson Trojans will look to start the season’s first winning streak when they take on the Carroll Eagles.

Fortunately for CHHS (2-5, 2-3), Carroll (0-7, 0-5) has struggled even more than the Trojans this season.

Carroll has been outscored 252-88 this season, an average score of roughly 36-13.

Still, CHHS head coach Hugh Fountain said the Trojans will not be overlooking the Eagles this week.

“We’re a 2-5 football team,” Fountain said. “We’ve got to be humble, play hard, and just try to win. I assure you we can’t overlook them. We’re 2-5. We’re not overlooking anyone.”

Also, Carroll will be looking for some revenge from last year’s 62-13 thrashing it suffered at the hands of CHHS.

“The greatest danger for us is that we beat Carroll so badly last year,” Fountain said. “We’ve never beaten them that bad before, so I’m sure they will have lots of motivation to knock us off.”

While Carroll may have struggled so far this season, it does have athletes that concern the Trojan coaching staff.

“With Carroll, you look at them and see that they’re 0-7, but they have two great running backs in Quadarian Broome and Delante Jackson that are young and that run hard,” Fountain said. “They team really does play hard behind them, too.”

CHHS has a bit of momentum coming into this week’s game after knocking off Rehobeth 42-12 last week.

A win for the Trojans would not only give them back-to-back victories, but also keep their playoff hopes alive.

“Obviously, we’re just trying to get another win,” Fountain said. “We’re just focusing on taking it one game at a time. We’re trying to see if we can keep our head above water and stay alive in some kind of playoff race. We don’t have control of our own destiny, but we can just do whatever we can to win each game.”

Whether the Trojans wind up making the playoffs or not, Fountain said the team still has plenty to play for.

“We want to try and finish the season .500, which we have to win these games that are left to do that,” Fountain said.

Having goals that are still attainable has helped to keep the Trojans from giving up on the 2009 season.

“We aren’t looking at this season as being over by a long shot,” Fountain said.

“The players don’t think its over, and the coaching staff certainly doesn’t think it’s over. The season will not be over for us until the last game has been played.”
