There were no treats for the Troy Trojans this past Halloween, only tricks as the team traveled to Monroe, La.

And like it did two seasons ago, Troy returned home with a loss.

The Trojans were last handed a Sun Belt loss on Nov. 1, 2008, a streak of 13 games, before Troy fell this past Saturday, 28-14 to the Warhawks.

“Not much to say,” head coach Larry Blakeney said to open the team’s weekly press conference on Monday.

“We had a tough game on Saturday. I expected the kind of welcome we got, but I thought we would respond a little bit better to it than how we did. (ULM) had a great game plan. (Head coach) Todd Berry and his coaches and players put forth a great effort. We squandered a couple of big opportunities on top of some penalties and turnovers – we certainly have plenty of room for improvement.”

The loss drops Troy to 4-3 overall, and 3-1 in conference play.

It was also just the fifth loss the Trojans have suffered in the Sun Belt since 2005.

After taking a early 7-0 lead thanks to a Corey Robinson 28-yard pass to freshman Jamel Johnson.ULM would score 14-unanswered points to take the lead for good to end the first quarter of play.

This was just the third time the Trojans have trailed all season long.

To begin the grieving process, Blakeney said the team got together for a looker room meeting on Sunday to discuss what would happen next for the Men of Troy.

“We gave the guys the day off (on Sunday) after we had a meeting,” coach said.

“The thing with a loss is you want to try and turn it around as fast as possible and that’s what the team meeting was all about it. We talked about everyone doing some self-evaluation and making sure that everyone is doing all that they can to help the team win.

“(The trip to Monroe) is not an easy trip. There are a lot of excuses we could use. But a hat full of excuses is not going to get you very far, right now, we got to take care of Troy first and move on.”

In the game, the Trojans were outplayed in almost every category, as the Warhawks had more first downs, more time of possession, more total yards and fewer turnovers.

“Basically, we just didn’t come to play,” senior wide receiver Jerrel Jernigan said Monday. “Got to tip my hat to them – they played well.

“For some reason, the offense wasn’t clicking like we normally do. We didn’t overlook them at all, all the coaches were telling us we had to be ready. We had the right mind set going in there, we just couldn’t get the job done.”

The 14 points scored on Saturday were the lowest the Trojan offense, which is averaging close to 32 points per game, has put up this season.

“They came to play,” Robinson said.

“On defense, their guys were running with our guys. I think we have some of the fastest guys in the conference on offense, so that says a lot about their team. They came to play on their Homecoming day.”

Robinson finished 16-0f-38 for 167 yards a touchdown and two interceptions.

“There is a lot of urgency, (to win),” the quarterback said. “We have to have it every week from here on out.

“Every week is a must win. We have to come to play every single practice and game.”
