The president of Brundidge’s S.A. Graham Co. will face an Elmore County Grand Jury on charges that he stole materials from an Alabama Department of Transportation worksite.

According to Elmore Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Ricky Lowery, a preliminary hearing was held Wednesday for Randal Christopher Hall, who was charged with theft by deception. During the hearing, it was determined there was enough evidence to proceed to a grand jury.

Hall, 40, of Brantley, was arrested on Oct. 25 and is charged with theft by deception involving more than $100,000 of construction materials missing from an Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) construction site in Elmore County.

ALDOT officials previously reported the more than $100,000 worth of riprap, rock used to armor shorelines, streambeds, bridge abutments, pilings and other shoreline structures against erosion, was reported missing. ALDOT investigators later found the materials on a private landowner’s property in Titus, where the owner said he was storing the rock as a favor for the company.

Tony Harris, a spokesman for ALDOT, told The Messenger previously that the payments to S.A. Graham Co. had been stopped and it had been removed from the bid list.

Harris said Monday he had no further information about the status of the company.

Jenny Hamilton, spokeswoman for the Elmore County District Attorneys Office, said the next Grand Jury will begin Jan. 10, 2011, but she could not say for certain if Hall’s case will be on the docket.
