Lt. Gov. Kay Ivey spoke to a packed house at The Studio in downtown Troy for the Pike County Republican Women’s monthly luncheon on Wednesday.
Ivey spoke about the importance of re-evaluating party affiliation and becoming involved in the election process.
“We’ve got to stand for values, not just for your kinfolks,” Ivey said.
Ivey also praised the current state administration in their collaboration efforts.
“We work together. We talk to one another. Isn’t that amazing?” Ivey said. “We are committed to finding long-term solutions for our people.”
The Lt. Governor, who has also served as an educator, administrator and banker, encouraged people to contact lawmakers and let them know how they feel about certain issues.
“If they don’t hear from constituents back home, they are going to get weak kneed,” Ivey said.
Ivey made it no secret that she is a strong supporter of Mitt Romney and is hopeful he’ll be the next President of the United States.
“This election is so important,” Ivey said to those present. “We simply must save the Republic.”
State Republican Party Chair Bill Armistead also spoke at Wednesday’s event.
“We are on the verge of making this a Republican state at the county level,” Armistead said, urging people to vote on Election Day. “We feel very good that we’re moving in the right direction.”
Armistead also reported on “Alabama’s Battleground Patriots” who are traveling out of state to help Romney at the polls. A busload of 50 people from Alabama went to Jacksonville, Fla. this weekend and two buses were heading for Dayton, Ohio on Wednesday.
“We’ll have 116 people on the ground before the day is out in Dayton,” Armistead said. “They are converting people.”
And, if people weren’t convinced their vote counted in presidential elections, Armistead reminded Pike County that only 537 votes decided that George W. Bush would become president.
Ivey closed the meeting with a statement that drew applause.
“We ask God to continue to bless Alabama and these United States of America.”
