The City of Brundidge was bustling Thursday night as if in days of old at Christmas time.

Thursday night was opening night of the town’s three days and nights of open house.

Jamie Bullock, owner of Brundidge Florist, said several downtown businesses come together each year for the open house. The Downtown Open House has become a Brundidge tradition.

The year’s Downtown Open House is being held in conjunction with the Brundidge Historical Society’s closing week of the fall production of Alabama’s Official Folklife Play, “Come Home, It’s Suppertime” at the We Piddle Around Theater.

Lawrence Bowden, president of the historical society, said the Downtown Open House is a great opportunity for those who are in Brundidge to see ‘Come Home’ to visit the downtown shops.

“This is a unique opportunity for us to showcase Brundidge at the beginning of the holiday season,” Bowden said. “Hopes are to have our old fashioned Christmas string lights turned on briefly for everyone to enjoy. We are very pleased that our downtown merchants have chosen to have Open House in conjunction with our folklife play.”

Bowden said everyone is invited to Downtown Open House in Brundidge.

“We invite everyone to come ‘piddle around’ in Brundidge today and Saturday,” he said. “Even if you don’t have a ticket to ‘Come Home,’ you’ll enjoy shopping the old fashioned way in Brundidge during Downtown Open House.”

Businesses that will be open with special sales until around 7 o’clock tonight and until 2 p.m. on Saturday are Brundidge Florist, Main Street Jewelers, The MarketPlace, studio 116, Bella Zaire, Hawkins Drugs and Abe’s Antiques.
