Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Tim James made a stop in Pike County Thursday night.

James, who gathered at the Pines with the Pike County Republicans, came to pitch his campaign: “Common Sense for Alabama.”

“I’m glad to be here in Troy tonight to speak to the Pike County Republicans,” James said.

James said the biggest issue he will face if elected to the office will be the economy.

With high unemployment rates in some areas of the state, James said it will be key he works to promote economic incentives.

“When we see that, it’s alarming, and we have to focus on it,” James said. “I believe we need incentives for existing business, and we have to help existing home-owned businesses to grow.”

But James didn’t just speak on economic issues.

“I’ve come to talk about the health care business,” James said. “I oppose it top to bottom.”

James said included in his common sense initiative are plans to improve education, lower crime rates and enhance the overall quality of life.

James, son of former Governor Fob James Jr., said he decided to run as a public service.

“I believe in public service. Good people must put themselves into office,” James said.

Adam Drinkwater, chairman of the Pike County Republican Party, said James’ speech was both informative and enjoyable.

“It was great for him to come to Pike County, and it was clear that everyone was very interested in what he had to say,” Drinkwater said.
