The Red Cap Survivors Breakfast, which honors the survivors of heart attack and stroke, will be at 8 a.m. February 12 in the activities building of First Baptist Church of Troy.

The Red Cap Survivors Breakfast is hosted annually by the Pike County Heart Walk board.

Jim O’Neal, event chair, said letters are being mailed to about 160 heart and stroke survivors who are on the board’s survivor list but he is certain that the list is not complete.

“We know that there are heart and stroke survivors who aren’t on the list and we want them to know that they are invited and we want them to come,” O’Neal said. “The spouses/caregivers are also invited. This is not an RSVP event. You don’t have to let us know. Just come and enjoy the fellowship and the breakfast.”

O’Neal said the Red Cap Survivors Breakfast menu will be a heart-healthy one. Following the breakfast, there will be a short program with Bob Whitson, as the featured speaker.

“Bob Whitson is a retired Troy University professor,” O’Neal said. “He has had open heart surgery and has recovered nicely. In fact, he has taken a bicycle tour of Germany so his heart is strong. He will tell us his story and it should be very interesting and encouraging.”
