Troy residents will have to wait until mid-summer, but the announcement officially comes this week of a new downtown restaurant.

Momma Goldberg’s, a chain sandwich, salad, soup and nacho shop, will be the newest addition to Troy’s downtown come mid-July.

“The family atmosphere of Troy made it the perfect place for Troy,” said Jake Messenger, owner.

Messenger will bring the 14th Momma Goldberg’s to the area, though this will be the first store he owns.

“I wanted to become a part of a community around a college and become part of that community,” he said.

The store will be located on the square where Trinity Fitness was once housed, between Glow Sunless Tanning and Wise Office Supply.

Messenger said he will begin working on the building preparations immediately, but he expects to open for business in the summer.

Once the store does arrive, he said it will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

“We hope to get a good night crowd down there and maybe provide live music once a week. We want it to be a nice little hang out spot,” Messenger said. “We will offer beer and wine but beer and wine will not be the biggest part of Momma Goldbergs. It will be a little family atmosphere.”

He also hopes to bring in musicians to add some entertainment to the area.
