The Charles Henderson softball team was in desperate need of a win coming into its game against Carroll Thursday.
After five innings, the Trojans would get that win, thanks to a bases loaded clearing triple by Becca Hartley in the bottom of the fifth that helped push her team over a 10-run lead, and go on to win, 12-0.
“We played good (Thursday),” head coach Robin Snyder said.
“It was a big area win for us.
“Defensively, I thought we played very good – I was very pleased with that performance.
“Offensively, we still have a lot of room for improving. There were several unearned runs for us (Thursday), runs that we might not get on a regular basis. If we want to get better, we have to do a better job of hitting the ball in certain situations.”
The win stops a four-game losing streak and improves the Trojans to 6-13. Not only did Hartley help close the game out for CHHS in the fifth inning, but also early on in the game, thanks to her two-run home run.
“We are seeing signs that we feel good about from the girls,” Snyder said. “I think this team is starting to come together.
“Defensively, we still have to adjust some people here and there, but we are looking good. Hopefully, we are solidifying that and get everyone where they are supposed to be.
“Now is the time for us to start to build off our wins. These girls have fought through some adverse situations this season, I believe they will continue to do so as the season goes on,” he added.
