Monday evening at the Pike County School Board meeting, there were many issues and discussions brought up.

But there was also a resolution for a situation that needed to be addressed.

Since the middle of March, both Pike County High School and Dr. Mark Bazzell, superintendent for Pike County Schools, have been on the search for the new head football coach of the Bulldog program.

And on Monday, that search came to an end.

The new man leading the charge at Bulldog Stadium next season will be former Tallassee head coach Rodney Dollar.

“Coach Dollar has over 140 wins in Alabama High School Athletic Association sanctioned play and his winning percentage is about 66 percent. He has had teams with multiple playoff appearances as well as 10 win seasons. We spent a lot of time together and he feels like this is the place he wants to be.”

Bazzell said the applicant pool for the position was very strong and filled with some very qualified people.

The superintendent pointed out that there were 73 applications in total, 18 of which were from individuals who had previous head coaching experience. However, Bazzell would not discuss who else applied for the coaching position.

“(Dollar) has been with some good schools and some strong programs in the past, but has never had a chance to win it all, and he fills like he can have that opportunity (at Pike County).”

Dollar will be taking over as the new head coach and athletic director for the school, replacing Robert Johnson, who vacated both positions back in March.
