Former Charles Henderson High School baseball standout David Fleming was recently named to the AAU National All-Tournament team after playing for the Wiregrass Cardinals in the AAU National Tournament from July 27-Aug. 1.
“It’s a great honor,” Fleming said. “AAU has a bunch of good players, so it was a big deal to make all-tournament team. It kind of means that you’re one of the top players in the tournament.”
While Fleming did play well at the AAU tournament, so too did his teammates.
The Cardinals finished the tournament as runners-up and had three other players named to the all-tournament team.
“You know, it is a great honor, but it wasn’t just me playing real well,” Fleming said. “Our team played real well and our defense really did a good job of backing me up out there.”
Fleming said the level of baseball he experienced while at the tournament was a unique experience for him.
“It was definitely a different kind of experience,” Fleming said. “There were a lot of talented teams there. It was very different for me, especially playing on a minor league field that was affiliated with the Boston Red Sox.”
With the AAU tournament behind him, Fleming will now turn his attention to Northwest Shoals Community College, where he will continue his athletic career.
