Troy University will host the Sixth Annual Southeastern United States Honor Choir on Friday and Saturday with a public performance of the final concert on Saturday afternoon.

Dr. Diane Orlofsky, director of University Choirs and coordinator of the event, said the honor choir will be composed of nearly 190 high school vocalists from across the Southeast including 15 students from Charles Henderson High School.

“These outstanding young vocalists will rehearse with clinician/conductor Dr. Gary Packwood throughout the two-day event and their final concert will be at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday in the Claudia Crosby Theater on the campus of Troy University. The concert is free and open to the public and everyone is invited to attend.”

Orlofsky said Packwood is a dynamic and engaging conductor.

“I am so excited that students from Alabama, Georgia and Florida will be able to spend such concentrated time with him,” Orlofsky said. “I guarantee they will leave better musicians and better humans just for having worked with him.

“Gary has programmed a diverse, multi-cultural and upbeat program that will have everyone smiling.”

Vocal scholarships will be awarded to several deserving high school students who participate in the Sixth Annual Southeastern United States Honor Choir.

“This event has doubled in size and we are genuinely excited about welcoming these singers to our campus,” Orlofsky said. “We encourage the community to attend the free concert on Saturday in support of these outstanding high school vocalists.”
