A Troy man faces charges of assault after he allegedly punched a sheriff’s deputy during an arrest attempt Monday.

Marcus Johnson, 22, is charged with assault second degree and resisting arrest after an altercation broke out as officers were attempting to arrest him on a parole violation Monday.

Pike County Sheriff Russell Thomas said Sgt. Sam Mallory went into Johnson’s residence around 1:30 p.m., where he was serving a warrant for Johnson failing to report and pay, part of his probation violations.

“He located (Johnson) hiding under the rear bedroom bed. He refused to surrender, and a struggle took place,” Thomas said. “He struggled with the deputy and twisted his Taser from his hand and punched the deputy. He also attempted to get his gun, and during the struggle, the deputy’s finger broke.”

Thomas said Johnson fled from his home in Hillside Mobile Home Park into the woods, but he was located shortly after by the Pike County Sheriff’s Department and Troy Police Department.
