Alabamians are continuing to battle influenza-like illness as the end of January nears, according to the Alabama Department of Public Health.
The Bureau of Clinical Laboratories reports there were 52 positive specimens received for the week ending Jan. 19.
Of those that tested positive for influenza, 10 were positive for Influenza A, H3 and five were positive for Influenza B.
While the flu is still wide spread
in the state, numbers are down compared to the previous week ending on Jan. 12.
The ADPH recommends the following 10 tips to fight the flu this year: get vaccinated; wash your hands; cover coughs and sneezes; stay home with fever; stockpile supplies; clean and disinfect; know your office emergency plan; learn home care; call your doctor if symptoms worsen; and stay informed.
Alabama recruited 84 healthcare providers to report the number of patients seen with influenza-like illnesses each week to the Centers for Disease Control.
Those numbers, according to the ADPH, come from every public health area and almost every county.
Data released by the ADPH is provided by healthcare providers who participate in the influenza surveillance network and does not reflect the total influenza cases in Alabama.
