Gerald G. Jones

Gerald G. Jones, age 87, of Tuscaloosa, died Jan. 31, 2013, at Hospice of West Alabama. Graveside service was at Green Hills Memorial Park with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation was held Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Margaret E. Jones; sons, Richard A. Jones and Robert W. Jones; and brother, A. Dean Jones.

Survivors include his sons, Dean Jones, Gerald G. Jones, Thomas E. Jones, and Timothy R. Jones; sister, Doris Roybal; brothers, Maurice R. Jones and Robert (NAP) Junes; 11 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and special friends, W. Belle Avery and Vivian Williams.

Mr. Jones was born in Mercer County, Pennsylvania. He entered the U.S. Army in 1943, served in the Battle of the Bulge, and after 26 years of service, retired. In 1947, he married his dear “Margie” and they had six sons. He graduated from Troy State in 1978. He retired from the Alabama Highway Department. He has lived the past 35 years in Tuscaloosa.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Salvation Army.
