Constant good deeds performed with a sincere heart have benefited Coach Dee Brundidge after the loss of his home when a tornado ripped through Goshen Christmas night.
Brundidge and his family have been displaced ever since that scary night, but Nikki Williams and other good-hearted Goshen residents have banded together to put on a benefit color run this Saturday to help raise money for Brundidge.
“All of the proceeds from the benefit will go directly to the family for a replacement home,” Williams said. “We accept any donations, if people are not able to participate, and everyone is welcome to participate.”
The color run is a 5K event that will be held at the Goshen softball field at 1 p.m. Saturday. Different color powdered pain will be thrown on participants as they pass through different race checkpoints.
The benefit was actually a surprise to Brundidge, but he knows it was put together out of the kindness of Williams’ heart.
“The organizing of this benefit is exactly what I teach my kids, to push through adversity in life,” Brundidge said.
Brundidge coaches recreational league football and is the founder of a non-profit afterschool program in Goshen, called D’Elite. The after school program is designed as a study hall and special training program for children.
“It gives them a place to stay positive and have positive role models,” Brundidge said. “It’s like the Boys and Girls Club of Goshen for families who cannot afford to send their kids to Troy.”
Brundidge said he is appreciative of every single donation his family has received, whether it was clothes, gas money, or transportation. He does not look at this event as a benefit, but as a fun day for the community to come together.
“I have never been a part of anything like this before, but it is just amazing and a blessing from God,” Brundidge said.
The cost for adults is $20, $10 for children, and $15 for groups. Registration will be on Saturday from 11 a.m until 12:30 p.m.
