Overview: Troy (5-1) takes on a pair of SWAC teams in Alabama State (7-1) on Tuesday in Montgomery and Jackson State (2-5) on Wednesday at Riddle-Pace Field. The Trojans are averaging 11.8 runs per game which ranks them second in the NCAA.
Danny Collins leads Troy with a .550 batting average and 12 RBIs. Logan Pierce is swinging at a .481 clip while Tyler Vaughn is hitting .423.

Alabama State plays host to Troy in a Tuesday night bout. The Hornets are coming off an impressive showing in the MLB/Astros Urban Invitational in Houston, Texas., and are of to the best start in school history. ASU defeated Prairie View A&M (9-2), Southern (6-4) and Texas Southern (3-1). T.J. Renda got the season started off on the right foot for the Hornets as he pitched a no-hitter against Chicago State in the a season-opening 14-0 win.
ASU’s only loss came at South Alabama in a 15-4 verdict. The Hornets are led by 3B Leo Rojas who is batting .467 on the season. 1B Manny Rodriguez is not far behind with a .414 average and 10 RBIs.
Troy will send Tanner Hicks (1-0, 4.50) to the mound against ASU. Hicks was scheduled to start Sunday’s finale of the Wawa Weekend Classic in Orlando before the game was canceled.

Jackson State at Troy | 2/27/13 | 5 p.m. | Riddle-Pace Field
Jackson State visits Troy on Wednesday night. The Tigers are coming off a tough 13-0 road loss to Central Arkansas in which Jackson State was no-hit by UCA’s Bryce Bigerstaff. Jackson State’s pair of victories came in their season-opening Jackson State Tournament. The Tigers defeated Texas Southern (4-0) and Eastern Illinois (8-2). JSU also lost to both of those teams in the tournament as well.
JSU is led at the plate by 2B Desmond Russell who is batting .310 on the young season with 5 RBIs.
As a team, the Tigers are batting just .212 while opponents are hitting .284 off of them. The team’s collective ERA is 6.57 and have walked 47 batters compared to just 50 strike outs.
