Pike Liberal Arts crushes Macon-East in key area game

Pike Liberal Arts moved to 3-0 in area play with a decisive 13-3 victory over Macon-East on Tuesday.
The Patriots jumped ahead early with four runs in the first inning. Chandler Avant singled to lead of the game then John Stephen Grice walked. One batter later, Robert Benton singled to score Avant. Brian Adams then laced the first pitch he saw to straight-away center for a three-run home run.
After Macon-East got a run back in the home half of the first, Pike added two in the second, three in the third and four in the fourth to roll over the Knights in five innings.
Avant, batting .500 (23-46) on the season, finished the game 3-for-3 with a double. Benton and Adams were both 2-for-4 on the day.
Taytom Barnes, Rush Hixon and Drew Starling also had hits in the game.
The Patriots improve to 13-3 and continue their hot hitting. As a team, Pike is swinging at a .328 clip with 131 runs scored and are reaching base 46.9 percent of the time.
Pike prepares to host the annual Jonah McWaters Tournament beginning on Thursday.
