The Troy Darlings made a good showing before eventually being ousted in the semifinals of the Sub-District tournament in Luverne June 26-30.
Troy opened the tournament on Friday against Eufaula, a familiar foe they had faced in the championship of a warm-up tournament a week earlier. Unfortunately, the outcome was also familiar as Eufaula came out on top 19-6. Bailey Rushing was the top hitter for the Troy Darlings, going 2-for-2 and scoring two runs.
Samantha Yarbrough was 1-for-2 with a home run and three RBIs.
Next Troy met the host team from Luverne on Saturday, and the home field proved to be no advantage, as Troy won easily 16-6.
Three Troy players were perfect at the plate, as Mya Terry and Samantha Yarbrough went 3-for-3 and Sabra Daniels was 2-for-2.
Tucker Earles, Holly Hughes, Bailey Rushing, and Nelsey Leverette all went 2-for-3 and scored two runs each.
Terry, Hughes, Rushing and Leverette all hit home runs in the game.
On Monday night, Troy played Brantley to determine who would move on for a rematch with Eufaula for the sub-district championship.
After the dust cleared on a back-and-forth battle, Troy’s season came to an end with a hard-fought 25-24 loss. Troy racked up 36 hits in the game with Mya Terry, Bailey Rushing, Nelsey Leverette, Haylee Hollingshead and Gracie Scarbrough all going 4-for-4.
Holly Hughes, Samantha Yarbrough and Alyssa English all went 3-for-4 at the plate with Yarbrough hitting two home runs and piling up six RBIs. Leverette also homered for Troy and had five RBIs.
