Elba Highway set for repairs

Residents traveling along Highway 87 this month will have to slow down a little.
Beginning Wednesday, the Alabama Department of Transportation will begin a resurfacing project that will leave some 5-miles of the state road under construction for the next 45 days, according to a press release from ALDOT.
The project will span a little less than a mile south of State Route 167 to just south of County Road 3304, which is south of Troy.
ALDOT Project Manager Sam Lewis said the project will extend along Highway 87 from Ward’s Groceries in Springhill to Whisper Woods Drive in Troy.
During the project, that portion of the road will become a one-lane road, Lewis said.
The project will plane, resurface and restripe the road as part of routine maintenance.
“It’s just wear and tear and needs to be repaired before it gets any worse,” Lewis said.
Lewis said in addition, the road will be widened some.
The contractor will erect advance construction warning signs to advise the public and will have portable signs and a pilot car to safely guide motorists through the work zone.
ALDOT officials urge motorists to reduce speed and use caution when traveling through the construction areas.
The construction will be completed by Wiregrass Construction Company.
