The Brundidge Rotary Club entertained the 15 applicants for the annual scholarships awarded by the Rotarians to area high school seniors Wednesday at The Wagon Wheel.

The club received applicants from Pike County, Goshen, Pike Liberal Arts, Zion Chapel and Ariton high schools.

Six $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to this year’s pool of applicants.

The candidates include Quincy Barefoot and Hunter Wilson, Ariton High School; Carlton Bean, Jared Maddox and Sidney Sullivan, Goshen High School; Jamilya Coleman, Tyra Griffin and Tyliyah Hooks, PCHS; Katie Barbaree, Kori Chirico and Morgan Graham, PLAS; and Hannah Goodson, Kanonta Haynes and Kaleb Smith, Zion Chapel.

Chip Wallace, chair of the Rotary Club’s education committee, said the club had 15 exceptional applicants.

“They are all outstanding in every way,” Wallace said. “They have different personalities and interests, but they all are outstanding academically and are leaders in their schools and their communities. The 15 young people are just all around outstanding people. Their futures look bright. I wish we could give 15 scholarships, but now is the hard part. We have to narrow it down to six and that’s going to be very difficult.”

The Brundidge Rotary Club awards scholarships based on academics, community service and leadership.

The Rotarians work throughout the year to raise funds for the annual scholarships and community service projects.

The Rotary Club’s annual projects include Boston butt sales, Auburn-Alabama football ticket raffles and the drawings at the weekly club meeting.
