Troy sweeps Fla. International, jumps to No. 25 in poll

Troy University’s baseball team earned its third consecutive home Sun Belt Conference series sweep over the weekend and in doing so earned some national respect.
The Trojans made their debut at No. 25 in the Collegiate Baseball Top 30 poll as announced on Monday.
Troy (35-12) has been on quite a run of late winning 11 of its last 12 games and owns the nation’s longest home winning streak at 16 games.
The NCAA’s hottest team features some of the nation’s most productive players. Tyler Vaughn currently leads the country in runs scored with 61 while first baseman Trae Santos is fourth with 14 home runs.
Troy will travel to Tuscaloosa to face the University of Alabama on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
The Trojans are 5-2 against in-state, non-conference opponents this season including an 11-2 win over Auburn on March 26. The Trojans are 8-17 all-time versus Alabama and 5-6 against the Crimson Tide under Bobby Pierce.
Pierce played for the Crimson Tide and served as co-captain during his senior season, en route to setting numerous SEC records. He was also named to Alabama’s All-Century team.
In addition to his playing days in Tuscaloosa, Pierce served as an assistant at for the Crimson Tide for five seasons in the early 1990’s.
Trailing Sun Belt Conference leader South Alabama by just a single game in the league standings, the Trojans will host Arkansas State over the weekend. UAB will play host to Troy on May 14 in the team’s final midweek contest of the season.
Troy will travel to South Alabama to face the Jaguars to round out the regular season in what is setting up to be a battle for the regular season conference title.
A conference title for the Trojans would be their fourth of the Pierce era.
