TRMC rewards employees through a week of fun

It’s where people go when they are sick or injured. But hospitals are much more than just a building.

The people that work at hospitals, including at Troy Regional Medical Center, are part of the community with a vested interest in fostering health and hope.

This week is National Hospital Week. It’s a time to put the spotlight on people who work toward providing treatment and comfort to the community.

“National Hospital Week, first and foremost, is a celebration of people,” said Teresa Grimes, chief executive officer of TRMC. “We’re extremely proud of each member of our staff and we recognize the important role they play in extending a sense of trust to our patients and our communities.”

National Hospital Week dates back to 1921 when it was suggested by a magazine editor who believed a community-wide celebration would alleviate public fears about hospitals. The celebration began in Chicago and trickled down to hospitals everywhere.

The theme for this year’s hospital week is “A Guiding Light for Changing Times.” Each day this week, TRMC is hosting a special event to reward the hard work of hospital employees. So far, employees have received special treats and some have participated in dress up days.

“Hospital Week is the perfect time for us to get together and have a great time. And there is always some friendly competition involved in the events. It is hospital wide, all shifts included and that is what makes it so special,” Grimes said.
