Glenwood’s Festival at the Well will celebrate 20 years on Saturday in downtown Glenwood.

The festival will feature local arts and crafts, carnival food vendors, children’s activities, the Beauty and Beau pageant and a non-stop lineup of South Alabama’s best stage talent, said Steve Holmes, festival committee member and event emcee.

“That’s just some of what 20 year’s worth of festival goers have come to expect each year on the third Saturday in May,” Holmes said.

The small rural town of Glenwood is centered on an old flowing or artesian well.

“The well has been a focal point near the confluence of Crenshaw, Pike and Coffee counties since Glenwood first came into being in the mid-1800s,” Holmes said. “The streets and grounds surrounding the landmark will be filled to overflowing with food vendors, arts and crafts booths and lots of fun activities for the kids. Delicious smoked barbecue with all the trimmings will be served up by the Glenwood Volunteer Fire Department on site. Take home quantities will be available until they sell out.”

The entertainment for this year’s Festival at the Well has not been finalized.

“But, if past years are any indication, be prepared for one of South Alabama’s best variety shows,” Holmes said. “We’ve had everything from local dancers and karaoke singers to Grammy winning song writers and session musicians and everything in between. There are usually some very well-known surprise guests as well.”

Holmes said the Festival at the Well traditionally features bluegrass, gospel, country, folk and rock music.

The Festival will kick off with a parade at 9 a.m. on Saturday and will wind down with a street dance beginning at 8 p.m. The featured dance band will be County Line.
