There are about 70 children from preschool to sixth grade taking part in Salem Baptist Church’s “Colossal Coaster World” Vacation Bible School this week.
“The kids have been having a wonderful time,” shared VBS Director Jane Thrash.
Recreation, crafts, Bible study and music are a only a few of the activities planned for the children as part of the program.
But the fun isn’t just for children.
“We have about 10 adults enrolled for the adult Vacation Bible School, and we’ll have some events going on for older youth later this summer,” Thrash said.
On Tuesday, the theme of the day was “facing fears,” which focused on the Bible verse 2 Timothy 1:7; “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
The Bible school has a different theme every day, but the overall motto this week is “Facing Fear, Trusting God.”
“A lot of churches have this same theme, but we’ve modified it for ours,” Thrash said.
She explained the church changed the music selection a bit by including patriotic songs and old hymns that related to their themes.
“Seeing the expression on the kids’ faces and seeing their excitement is what I love,” Thrash said.
The Bible school will continue through June 21.
