BRANTLEY — While the scoreboard showed that Brantley won the football game Thursday night, Goshen head coach Bart Snyder walked off the field with his held high.

The Eagles varsity fell to the Bulldogs 13-0 in a two-quarter scrimmage Thursday night in Brantley.

“Overall, I am very pleased with what I saw tonight, for the most part,” Snyder said. “Now, we have to see what we can do with it. The new five days will be crucial for us. We need to take the time to fix mistakes, and get ready for a very athletic Pike County team in just a few days.”

Snyder said that if not for a few costly mistakes by his team, the Eagles could have pulled the upset of the highly-ranked Bulldogs.

“That Brantley group went 15-0 last year, and have some of the finest athletes that we will see all year,” said Snyder. “We had ourselves in position to score twice, and we didn’t take advantage of it. We fumbled the ball twice, and let them score on a long pass and then gave them a short field with an interception.”

Goshen quarterback Deangelo Orum echoed his head coach’s sentiments.

“We know we can be good,” Orum said. “We just have to put our head down and keep working hard every day. Coach Snyder always tells us to ‘Practice greatness” and we do. We will come back even better next week.

Goshen opens the 2013 regular season on the road in Brundidge against the Pike County Bulldogs next week.
