The deadline for entries in the Humane Society of Pike County’s Pet Photo Contest has been extended through Friday.

Lisa Howard, contest chair, said because of the Labor Day holiday weekend, many requests have been made to “give us a few more days.”

“We have extended the entry deadline through Friday to give people a little more time to get their photos in,” Howard said. “We’re on track with last year so this year’s contest should be very competitive and a lot of fun.”

The Humane Society of Pike County’s Pet Photo Contest historically has been the cat’s meow. The winner of every contest has been a cat. But, Howard said, the word is out that they’re going to let the “dawgs” out in Brundidge and give chase to the cats.

To enter a photo in the Pet Photo Contest, submit an 8×10 photo (color or black and white), a completed entry form and a $10 donation to the Humane Society of Pike County.

The entry form should include the owner’s name, address and telephone number, the pet’s name and comments about the pet. Entries may be mailed to Pet Photo Contest, P.O. Box 296, Troy, AL 36081. Entries postmarked Sept. 6 will be accepted.

Entries may also be turned in to Guynn’s Tax and Bookkeeping Service, Troy Antiques and The Little Framery in Troy and Jinright Hillside Antiques on Highway 231 South of Troy.

“You can enter as many photos as you would like but each entry requires a separate entry form and $10 fee,” Howard said.

The winner of the Pet Photo Contest will be featured on the cover of the humane society’s 2014 Pet Photo Calendar. In addition to the cover winner, there will be a winner for each month and each week of the year.

“The selection of a winner will be by the number of votes received,” Howard said. “You can vote as many times as you like by donating one dollar per vote to the Humane Society of Pike County and all donations are tax deductible.”

Voting may be done by mail or at Guynn’s, Troy Antiques, the Framery and Hillside Antiques and other specified locations around the county through Sept. 30. The entries and number of votes may be viewed online at www.pikehumane.org.

All funds raised will support the humane society’s spay and neuter, feral cat and educational programs.
